Learning Acceleration Division

Description of Program

The Learning Acceleration Division offers both academic preparatory and vocational coursework. Courses within the division are designed to serve as bridges to college achievement, career specialties, and employment success. The classes, explanations, and prerequisite requirements are subject to change in the event that the VP for Instruction, the NPCC faculty, or the Learning Acceleration Division find such change to be required in the pursuit of the NPCC mission or the mission of the LAD.

Pre-College Level Courses

Upon enrolling at NPCC, students may be asked to schedule one or more Pre-College Level (PCL) class. These PCL classes provide the student with a refresher semester before he/she enrolls in college level classes. Students must earn a "C" to pass these classes in order to move into college level studies.

Active high school students are prohibited from taking pre-college level classes due to state regulations.

Grades given in these classes will count in the Grade Point Average calculation. NPCC gives institutional credit for PCL classes, so they can be counted for financial aid or veteran's benefits purposes. However, these classes may not be used toward any college certificate or associate degree, not even as an elective.

Once enrolled in a PCL class, a student will receive a comprehensive review of college preparatory material in reading, math writing, and/or study skills. NPCC recommends that students take these classes to enhance success in subsequent college level coursework.

LAD Courses

Four one-hour elective credit classes in advanced study skills as well as telecourses in career exploration and study skills (three-hour elective credit) are available upon sufficient student request.
