Description of Programs
The mission of Power Equipment Technology is to introduce students to routine maintenance of two and four stroke cycle gas engines used on lawn and garden equipment. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to maintain and repair his/her own equipment and have a solid foundation to advance to a post-secondary program such as Automotive Service Technology or Marine Engine Repair Technology.
Program Content:
- First Year:
- First Semester
- Orientation
- This section of the course covers career opportunities, safety, tools, fasteners, and measuring.
- Small Engine Theory
- This section of the course covers identification and inspection, basic design and principles, ignition systems, charging systems, and starting systems.
- Second Semester
- Electrical
- This section of the course covers basic electricity, ignition systems, charging systems, and starting systems.
- Engine Service
- This portion of the course covers parts management, lubrication, cooling, fuel systems, governors, exhaust, troubleshooting, and overhaul of two and four stroke cycle engines.
- Second Year:
- First Semester
- The second year student will receive advance training in engine repair. Special emphasis will be placed on live repair and safety.
- Note: Students will be responsible for the cost of repair parts needed for repairs to their own equipment.
