Woodworking Technology Program

Description of Programs

Woodworking Technology ProgramThe mission of this program is to explore the wood manufacturing industry from forest to market, and expose youth to steps involved in creating wood objects from idea and need to execution and finishing.

Students explore man's first industry and take home wood projects they learn to build with the help of an instructor who has worked with wood for over 25 years. The course covers the history of shaping wood with hand tools as well as the latest in computer aided wood design innovations. The recently renovated woodworking lab at National Park Community College has computer controlled equipment and a dust extractor system offering a clean and safe learning experience.

Successful first year Wood Tech students come to the course with some algebra, geometry, and learning skills. Soon they are able to identify and safely use various wood species, hand tools, and power equipment found in cabinet shops and wood manufacturing facilities. The wood shop-learning environment demands a high level of personal responsibility.
