Technical Assessment
 

Examine your technical skills. To be a successful online student, you need to possess basic computer skills, be comfortable navigating the Web, be comfortable using e-mail, and be capable of producing documents using a word processor(Microsoft Office Word 2003 or Open Office is requried). In addition to these technical skills, you also will need to have strong keyboarding skills since all forms of communication will be via ANGEL's chat, discussion board, or email. The stronger your technical skills, the less time your assignments will take. If you don’t feel that your skills meet these minimum requirements, please refer to the course catalog for courses to improve your skills.

Basic Skills

  • Locate a file on your hard drive, diskette, and/or server
  • Save a file to a specific drive and folder
  • Change drives
  • Connect to an ISP (if working from home)
  • Navigate between two or more applications without closing and reopening each file (multitasking)

Web Browser Skills

  • Go to a specific URL
  • Print a page
  • Follow a hypertext link
  • Conduct a basic search using a search engine
  • Re-trace a hypertext path

E-Mail Skills

  • Use an Internet address
  • Forward a message
  • Create a folder
  • Save a message in a specific folder
  • Delete a file
  • Add a name to the address book
  • Retrieve a name from the address book
  • Paste text from a word processor
  • Send an attachment
  • Open and/or save an attachment

Word Processor Skills

  • Open a new file
  • Open an existing file
  • Save a file
  • Rename a file
  • Save a file as a different format or with a different name (Use “SAVE AS”)
  • Copy or cut text
  • Paste text
  • Format text
  • Change line spacing
  • Print a document
