ORT 1101 Freshman Orientation (1-0-1) Freshman Orientation is designed to assist general education students with the skills needed for success in both college academics and life after college. The five-week course focuses on the student as a learner and participant in college society. Specifically, the class is concerned with the student's responsibility in learning, information, and cultural literacy, college demeanor, and the habits of mind that characterize the college experience. This is a required course for all first -time, full-time students at NPCC. Some things you might learn about in Orientation include NPCC Survival Tips. Attendance Attendance and participation are extremely important components in class success. In fact, research shows that students who attend class regularly perform better on exams. If you must be absent from class, it is your responsibility to contact your instructor and to make up the missed work. (Find out more about NPCC's attendance policy.) Communicate, communicate, communicate It is vitally important for you to maintain contact with your instructors. When unusual circumstances arise or when you simply do not understand an assignment, let your instructor know! Also, it is a great idea to exchange contact information with a couple of your classmates in case questions arise after your instructor's office hours.
