National Park Community College held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Frederick M. Dierks Center for Nursing & Health Sciences on April 2, 2008. The event was on the NPCC campus at the tennis courts located between College Drive and Rockefeller Drive.

The reality of this facility was made possible by Mr. Frederick M. Dierks´ generous $1.5 million pledge, the largest individual cash gift to an Arkansas community college when it was made in December 2006. This donation tremendously impacted the NPCC Foundation’s first capital campaign – Your Place. Your Time. Your Health. More than $4 million has been given to date.

Linda Castaldi, Nursing Division Chair, said, "When this building is completed all of the nursing students and faculty, PN and RN, will be together in the same building for the first time and we will "reside" with the health science students and faculty who will also be together in this facility. This will allow us to share resources as well as enhance the collaborative spirit so important in teaching and practicing health care. This new building will also provide space for alternative clinical experiences using simulation which is on the forefront of health care education. We are excited about this opportunity and appreciate the generosity of Mr. Dierks and others who have contributed to this dream." NPCC has trained approximately 90% of this area’s healthcare workers.

The building will be approximately 75,000 square feet and programs to be housed in this building include: Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Emergency Medical Technology/ Paramedic, Health Information Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiography, and Recreational Leadership.

The Bill Ogden Memorial Golf Tournament

Each April, the NPCC Foundation hosts an annual Bill Ogden Memorial Golf Tournament, in memory of one of the college's counselors. Proceeds from the tournament are used to fund the Bill Ogden Memorial Scholarship, awarded to students who intend to:

  • Pursue a degree in counseling or education and
  • Transfer to a four-year institution after graduation from NPCC.
