Some positions listed below are not funded in the current fiscal year due to a reduction in federal grants funds.

Tutoring Program (America Reads)– The work study student works with fifth through eighth grade students in the development of their reading skills off campus in local schools.


Art – The work study student works in the Art/Pottery Departments cleaning up after classes. The student maintains a clean organized classroom and performs other duties as needed.


Business Division – The work study student assists students with information systems, word processing, keyboarding and front page tutoring.


Business Office – The work study student assists in the front office with data input, filing, document scanning, report typing, mailing statements, and cashiering.



Campus Store – The work study students provide customer service to NPCC students and full-time staff/faculty members in support of required textbooks, educational material, supplies, softgoods and department supplies through the point of sale system (cash register). They provide answers to inquiries in person and on the phone. The student is required to stock textbooks, supplies, and merchandise in store and warehouse. They must create, view, and post department and student account records. Receives and logs daily campus deliveries in shipping and receiving. The work study supports special campus store events such as RUSH and nursing school book sales, as well as book buy-backs, graduation regalia, honor society inductions, and inventories. The student assists manager with open/close procedures and maintains campus store and warehouse recovery and cleanliness. They also complete other duties as assigned.


Career Center – This position will assist students with computer activities including; Orientation, Career Assessment, self- registration, graduating surveys and class schedules. Other activities include campus special events such as Career Day, Job Fair, and Opportunity Day in addition to service learning abilities. Customer service skills must be excellent and the student must have a general knowledge of the enrollment procedures and requirements.


Computer Services – The work study student assists with phones, helps students with assignments, maintains the lab and Computer Resource building.  They also assist students with the use of the User directory on computers throughout campus.

Counseling – The work study student assists with registration and mail outs. They help with scanning, copying, filing, phones, covering front desk, and replenish degree plans and college catalogs as needed.


Development – The work study student serves as a greeter and receptionist. The student handles filing responsibilities, updates and edits database, sets up and cleans up special events, folds and stuffs mailers, makes calls, schedules, AAUW scholarship interviews, does research as necessary, answers general fund raising questions, provides and receives fund-raising and payroll deduction forms.


Educational Talent Search – The work study student assists with workshops for participants and their parents. They help prepare handouts by copying, scanning, organizing, and distribution to 750 participants. The student assists the secretary with extensive record keeping of participants and the activities conducted. They also assist with filing, answering the phone, and other duties as assigned.


Financial Aid – The work study student greets and assists students and their families by helping them with FAFSA applications and the financial aid process. The student also answer phones, answer questions and relay calls and messages. They take care of mail distribution for 2nd floor. Work Study students may be asked to scan and link documents work with spreadsheets make phone calls and handle confidential information.



Graphic Design – The work study student loads computers, reloads fonts and software, mixes darkroom chemicals, scrubbing floors, filling and cleaning print processors, printing posters and does some design work.


Hospitality – The work study assists with filing, answering phones, making copies, organizing office and paperwork.


Human Resources – The work study student is a receptionist handling front office traffic and directing phone calls. This person works with confidential information provided for personnel files in regard to hiring, payroll, and benefits. They also support the HR staff in making copies, filing, entering data, and various other duties as needed. Computer and phone skills required. “


Library – The work study student handles routine tasks such as checking-out and locating library materials. They operate copier, microform and A-V equipment, shelve library materials, maintain order of materials, label and cover new materials. The students process the daily mail, answer phones and relay messages. They assist library staff with lists, overdue notices, orders, and assist disabled students.

MLT (Medical Lab Technology) – The work study works as a lab assistant maintaining labware, stocking and replenishing materials and supplies. They file, copy, and collate as well as operate a dishwasher, autoclave, and water purifier. The student prepares for three to five labs each week by setting-up, taking down, and basic operations in MLT student lab.


Maintenance – The work study assists the maintenance, grounds, and custodial departments with assigned duties. This position involves trash clean-up, mowing, weed-eating, grass edging, raking leaves, watering flowers, trimming trees, hauling debris, and at times digging holes or trenches. They wash vehicles, organize supplies, vacuum, wash windows, dust, as well as maintain handrails, steps, window ledges and walkways.


Math/Science – The work study student helps the instructors set up and maintain labs for courses in Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Microbiology and at times Physical Science. They order and perform scheduling of lab space.

Music – The work study keeps the roll for singers, makes flyers and programs for concerts as well as run copies of tests and handouts for classes. They copy schedules of singing engagements for groups, file music, prepare music folders and answer phone calls as needed. The student picks up orders from bookstore and checks mail.

Student Center – The work study cleans tables/chairs, sweeps and mops floors. They empty trash, vacuum, and perform other cleaning duties of the student union center and faculty/staff lounge.


Student Support Services – The work study assists the secretary with filing, copying, folding brochures and other clerical duties as needed.


VP/Administration – The work study student serves as a receptionist in administration. Primary job duties include greeting and directing students, faculty, and staff. This position provides clerical support to the VP of Student Services and administration staff. The student also assists with bulk mail-outs as needed.



Wellness Center – The work study assists the department with supervision of Gym, weight room, check in-out equipment, and sign in-out of persons using rooms/equipment. They provide orientation to students/staff on use of equipment and security for gym complex while instructors are in class. The student assists and guides wellness participants with assessment, goal setting and baseline measurements.



Workforce Development – The work study answers phones and takes messages. They mail information, enter data, distribute brochures, organize the office, copy and create classroom materials as well as perform some graphic design duties. The student also assists secretary as needed.
