The National Park Community College Music Program Announces Upcoming Concert
The NPCC Singers and Soundwaves will perform their annual spring concert at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Hot Springs.
This year's concert will include both groups from the College. The Singers, the larger choir at NPCC, perform four concerts a year and have entertained at Carnegie Hall on two occasions. The Soundwaves, NPCC's vocal jazz ensemble, appears around the state six to eight times a semester and have performed twice in Lincoln Center in the New York City Jazz Festival.
The concert will feature various musical selections by composers from both the classical and modern era including the "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" by Haydn and the moving "Places Among the Stars" by Arkansas composer, Jonathan Adams. The Soundwaves will perform popular jazz standards "unplugged."
Denise Edds, director of the groups and coordinator of the music program, reported, "The Music Program at NPCC has had a very busy year with great instruction from our talented music faculty and an extensive performing schedule." Members of both groups sang in the U of A Fort Smith Two-Year College Choral Festival in the fall semester and the Soundwaves most recently sang for the Hot Springs Jazz Society fundraiser, "Vocal-Rama."
This concert is free to the public. Donations will be gladly accepted towards scholarships for music majors.
